ABOUT ME

I am currently studying electrical engineering at the University of Cincinnati. I am also working on earning my MBA through the ACCEND program. I have had 2 co-op rotations at Marathon Petroleum, a research internship and 2 co-op rotations with Northrop Grumman, and I am on the search for a Full-time position after my graduation in May 2021. I have a passion for engineering and a desire to use my technical background in a project management position.

Northrop Grumman Xetron

Northrop Grumman is a leading global security company. Xetron specializes in innovative systems and cyber solutions to customers worldwide. Their company values include responsibility for quality, customer satisfaction, leadership, integrity, safety, and suppliers.

During my summer co-op, I worked as a test engineer. I worked with experienced lab technicians, performed hardware and signal analysis, developed soldering skills, and managed multiple lab organizational projects. I also developed my organizational and networking skills.

Engineering Education & Development

During the academic year, I worked part-time as a teaching assistant for the new engineering design thinking course. I served as a peer tutor, a mentor, and I occasionally lead discussions and lectures. Through this position, I have learned essential public speaking and leadership skills. I have also learned LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python, and VBA for Excel.

Marathon Petroleum

Marathon Petroleum is the world's largest refining company. They take crude oil and turn it into usable products with little waste. They started out as a small operation and expanded tremendously over the years. Their company values include health and safety, environmental stewardship, integrity, corporate citizenship, and diversity and inclusion.

I worked at the Robinson, IL refinery as an electrical reliability engineering co-op. I became more involved with long-term reliability projects and short-term maintenance. I worked with power distribution systems, I learned about electrical equipment sizing, and I tested equipment and analyzed data. I also further developed my professional speaking skills and working across departments.

Teaching Assistant & Resident Advisor

University of Cincinnati

I worked as a resident advisor for one of the "first-years" residence halls on campus. I was responsible for managing over 50 residents, I planned hall activities, I mentored residents, and I worked part-time as a desk assistant.

This was my also my first semester as a teaching assistant for the "models" engineering course (where we taught MATLAB). This is the first of three course I have taught over the years.

They started out as a small operation and expanded tremendously over the years. Their company values include health and safety, environmental stewardship, integrity, corporate citizenship, and diversity and inclusion.

I worked at the Catlettsburg, KY refinery as an electrical reliability engineering co-op. This was my first professional experience as a co-op student. I worked on test equipment, analyzing data, creating isometric drawings, assisting with turn-around maintenance, and got my first look into power distribution networks. I developed skills in networking, asking for work, professional communication, and teamwork.

Protege Research Internship

Win10_HoloLens_Hardware_Web_edited.jpg

Northrop Grumman Xetron

Northrop Grumman is a leading global security company. Xetron specializes in innovative systems and cyber solutions to customers worldwide. Their company values include responsibility for quality, customer satisfaction, leadership, integrity, safety, and suppliers.

During this research internship, I performed internal research and development relating to the Microsoft HoloLens for Northrop Grumman. I developed skills with C#, Unity, and micro-controllers such as the Raspberry Pi. This was my first professional work experience, and I gained introductory skills in time management, professional communication, and public speaking.

MY PROFESSIONAL TRANSFORMATION

My professional experience has been made up of my internships and co-ops throughout my last 5 years as an electrical engineering student. I started the Summer of my first year doing professional research for Northrop Grumman through UC's Protege program. This position was my first exposure to a professional engineering setting. As I completed my next two co-ops through Marathon Petroleum, I grew both as a professional and as an electrical engineer. I gained exposure to power distribution, working in a refinery, getting hands-on work aside electricians, and managing large reliability projects. At my most recent co-op with Northrop Grumman, I came in comfortable talking to and communicating with professional engineers, and I left with irreplaceable experience in hardware testing & design.

My professional experience has also been influenced by my on-campus positions. I learned great presentation and communication skills through my position as a residential advisor and as a peer teaching assistant. These positions allowed me to develop both my technical skills (teaching programming languages) and my professional communication skills.

SKILLS

Proficient in C, C#, C++, MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, and Verilog

Experience with PCB Design

Six Sigma (yellow belt certification)

Experience with HFSS, ADS, and XCCM

Experience with Bench Equipment

Experienced with Project Management

These skills have attributed to my development as a professional. Specifically, the programming languages I have learned have allowed me to become pretty fluid in learning any programming language that a company might have me learn. Through my co-ops, I have also gained a number of lab bench skills such as working with Network analyzers, signal analyzers, and on-board soldering. These skills will help me dramatically with my career as a hardware engineer.

Some additional skills that have contributed to my growth as a professional engineer has been some soft skills such as public speaking, professional communication, organization, and leadership skills. Most of these have come from experience with my previous co-op employers, and some has definitely come from my experience as a peer teaching assistant.

INTERESTS
EXPERTISE
Hardware Design

I truly enjoy undertaking new hardware design projects in my free time. I've participated in (and organized) multiple hackathons, I built my own 3d printer, I built a working model of a TETRIS game, I have developed my soldering skills, and I am currently working on an LED cube persistence of view project

PC Gaming

In my free time, I can typically be found online with friends. I built my own PC, I am a part of the UC Esports club, and I put in countless hours into casual and competitive gaming. My favorite games include Overwatch, Destiny 2, and relaxed single player games such as Spiderman and Stardew Valley.

Percussion

I have been a practicing percussionist for the last 8+ years of my life. I was even on the UC drumline during my first year of college. I play the tenor drums, but I am trying to save up for an electronic drumset.
